I specialize in personal branding, model portfolio, actor headshots, fitness portraits, and fine art-style individual sessions. Each session is custom-tailored to reflect your goals, style, and story.

No, it’s entirely your choice. Though it is recommended. Let’s break it down.
Not everyone routinely wears makeup, or perhaps only on special occasions. Unless we’re shooting fashion — and even then — makeup is never mandatory. But it is important to understand that it functions to even out skin tones and conceal problem areas. Blotchy skin, for example, will register more loudly on-camera than in person because such details are more noticeable in a photo. Some skin irregularities are simpler to compensate for upfront than in post-production, where extensive retouching requests can result in additional cost.
Makeup foundation made expressly for studio lights helps control shine and hot spots, vastly improving your outcome. At a minimum, a slight dusting of non-reflective powder is recommended for everyone.
For those who prefer to handle their own makeup, it’s essential to use foundations formulated for photography. Check out my Session Tips for more details on makeup and grooming preparation.
As for hair, most folks prefer to style their own, though on-set hair stylists are available by request. A longstanding rule that men should allow several days for hair to settle after a cut only applies to longer styles. Conversely, the precisely groomed fades so popular with men prefer typically looks best when freshly trimmed. Obviously, most modern beard styles look best groomed.

It depends on your needs. Fully cognizant that busy professionals are time-constrained, we offer the Executive Headshot Express, which are sessions under 30 minutes. Ordinarily, 15 minutes gets the job done. Honestly, for most folks it’s more than enough time to capture a flattering likeness, and we’re ready to go the minute you arrive. In fact, urgency can often bring out one’s best because, like the final minutes of a playoff game, everyone is focused! If you require grooming or makeup, that’s a different discussion. But many clients prefer to arrive as they are, which is fine.
-
Of course. Avoid patterns, stripes, or graphics to keep the viewer’s focus on you. Simple contours and shapes work best, so avoid anything frilly or unusual. In other words, stick with the tried-and-true classics. Color depends on an individual’s skin type and background preference, options for which we can discuss. For headshots, it’s recommended to cover more than you might opt for in a portrait session. Since most people have particular concerns, we offer free wardrobe consultation in advance of your session day. Multiple wardrobe changes are always welcome.

Nature certainly has her mischievous side. The skin preparation advice on our Session Tips page may contain useful information to help mitigate the source of the problem. Also, check out our blog article, Clear Skin In 5 Easy Steps. But rest assured that we routinely eliminate any aberrant blemishes and temporary imperfections in post-production. So even when outbreaks occur, don’t be concerned, it won’t affect the results of your portrait.

Absolutely! Providing visual examples as a point of reference is enormously helpful when you have something specific in mind. Creating mood boards on Pinterest is a great way to gather and generate ideas.

Not only can I, but I do so regularly. (Check out my testimonials for evidence.) The truth is that most people are a bit insecure in front of the camera because we feel exposed and understandably self-conscious. (Which is why modeling and acting are laudable skills.) But here’s something that may surprise you: Even accomplished actors can experience anxiety sitting for their portrait. In my previous career as a magazine creative director, celebrities often confessed to butterflies in the days before their session. It’s quite common and nothing to be concerned about. My approach is to engage my sitter in dialogue to get to know them and share some laughs. Soon enough their mind is elsewhere and they lean into the moment as their anxieties melt away. And once they’re shown some early outtakes, it’s smooth sailing from there. It’s my job to ensure that you have an enjoyable experience because, above all, that’s what it’s about.
-
I hear you! It’s time for a fresh perspective that goes beyond the cloying sentimentality so prevalent to this genre. I approach the challenge as if creating a movie. To succeed, it must be unlike anything we’ve seen before. I’m always up for a dialogue to explore the possibilities for what is — hopefully — a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
